School's in session

It has been nearly 20 years since Rob Reiner directed a really great movie (that would be 1995's "The American President"), so we understand the skepticism about his being featured, alongside his longtime editor Robert Leighton, on "AFI's Master Class: The Art of Collaboration." But if they dig back to their golden era, when their classics included "The Princess Bride" and "A Few Good Men," they could make compelling professors. 7 p.m. TCM

Cape fear

All the Oscar buzz for Michael Keaton's work in "Birdman" has us thinking about 1989's "Batman" and how he overcame all the skepticism by turning in a performance in which he was charming (as Bruce Wayne) and frightening (as the Caped Crusader). Also worth (re)watching to see Jack Nicholson get down to Prince music. 7 p.m. VH1 Classic

Home for the holidays

After the disastrous 1985 "National Lampoon's Vacation" sequel "European Vacation," Chevy Chase and company redeemed themselves with 1989's "Christmas Vacation," an anything-will-go-wrong romp with an inspired performance by the then relatively sane Randy Quaid. 8 p.m. ABC Family
