Rockin' around the Christmas tree

The team from the "Today" show pulls a night shift to host "Christmas in Rockefeller Center," Manhattan's way of boasting that its tree is bigger than yours. Let's just hope Al Roker doesn't accidentally stumble into the pine wonder and set the city on fire. Lady Gaga and Tony Bennett are among the entertainers. 7 p.m., KARE, Ch. 11

Bird calls

"Nature" doles out its own version of a greatest-hits collection with "Best of Birds," a special featuring highlights from "An Original DUCKumentary," "My Life as a Turkey" and "Penguins: Spy in the Huddle." Here's hoping Celtic great Larry Bird makes a guest appearance. 7 p.m., TPT, Ch. 2

Spaceman

The reclusive Neil Armstrong, who died in 2012, is honored in "First Man on the Moon," a documentary that looks at the life and times of the astronaut who took one small step for man and one giant leap for mankind. It's only unfortunate that the man himself wasn't more forthcoming about his experiences when he was alive. 8 p.m., TPT, Ch. 2
