Amanda Fuller plays the title role in “The Brittany Murphy Story.”

The party’s not over

Before getting their big breaks elsewhere, Lizzy Caplan (“Masters of Sex”), Jane Lynch (“Glee”) and Adam Scott (“Parks and Recreation”) teamed up for “Party Down,” a criminally underrated sitcom about caterers all dreaming of a better life. Think “Taxi” but with even worse clothes. All episodes from its two seasons on Starz are now available on Hulu Plus, but the first five are streaming for free.

A whole new world

Reality TV either takes a giant leap forward or backward in “Utopia,” an ambitious version of “Survivor” in which 15 contestants engage in a one-year social experiment that alienates them from the outside world and forces them to create a civilization from scratch. Let’s hope they’ve all read “Lord of the Flies.” 7 p.m. Sunday, KMSP, Ch. 9

Under the boardwalk

Is Nucky Thompson morphing into Michael Corleone? In the final-season premiere of “Boardwalk Empire,” the contemplative gangster is considering both business in Cuba and his legacy, just as Corleone did in “The Godfather II.” “Empire” is not as powerful as that movie, but it deserves much more attention than it has received during its five years on the air. 8 p.m. Sunday, HBO

Too soon?

“The Brittany Murphy Story” recounts the tragic life of the “Clueless” actress who showed so much promise before succumbing to the dark side of Hollywood. I’m all for exploring sordid stories, but this effort seems more like capitalizing on a family’s misfortunes than shining a light on a must-tell story. 7 p.m. Saturday, Lifetime
