Mountain high

For film buffs, the Telluride Film Festival is an integral part of the Labor Day weekend. For those of us who can’t make it Colorado for the big bash, TCM is dedicating 24 hours of programming to classic movies that premiered at the festival. The deep, diverse lineup includes 1925’s “The Big Parade” (8:30 a.m.), 1932’s “The Most Dangerous Game” (3 p.m.) and “My Left Foot” (11:15 p.m.).

Vanishing act

Adrien Brody falls short of making history’s greatest magician reappear in “Houdini,” an ambitious, two-part miniseries that tries too hard to capture every aspect of a full life. Sometimes the worst thing a film can do is try to cram in too much information, as if it’ll get demerits for leaving out key chapters. The 1953 version starring Tony Curtis may not be as historically accurate, but it’s a lot less exhausting and a heck of a lot more fun. 8 p.m. History

Beep! Beep!

Cars get reconstructive surgery in “Highway to Sell,” just the latest reality-based series aimed at guys obsessed with classic cars. Dennis Pittsenbarger and “Slick” travel across the country looking to retool vehicles that are at death’s door. Once the pair have done their magic, car owners must decide whether to buy back their beloved pets at a discounted rate or take a share of the profits at an auction. Inspired by “Sophie’s Choice.” 9 p.m. Discovery
