Robert Altman, right, on a movie set, in the documentary “Altman.”

The player

Robert Altman, who directed his final film in St. Paul, is feted in “Altman,” a new documentary directed by Ron Mann. Paul Thomas Anderson, who served as his backup on “A Prairie Home Companion,” offers comments, as do James Caan, Keith Carradine, Robin Williams and Julianne Moore. 7 p.m. EPIX

Paint by numbers

Just when you thought TV had run out of ideas for reality competitions, along comes “Skin Wars,” which pits body painters against one another. Rebecca Romijn, who went blue for “X-Men” and was the first model to be body-painted for Sports Illustrated, hosts. The winner gets $100,000 and a really coarse bar of soap. 8 p.m. GSN

Étouffée touché

The kitchen gets a bit more crowded in “Top Chef Duels,” featuring 18 of the most popular personalities from past “Top Chef” series. I’m particularly interested to see the battle between Chef Boyardee and Betty Crocker. Celebrity judges include Pink, Rob Zombie and our own Andrew Zimmern. 9 p.m. Bravo
