Michael Sheen and Lizzy Caplan portray Dr. William Masters and Virginia Johnson in “Masters of Sex.”

War bonds

Do your patriotic duty and salute the veterans of World War I by taking in a movie marathon that includes Stanley Kubrick’s “Paths of Glory” (7 p.m. Friday) and the 1930 version of “All Quiet on the Western Front,” (8:45 p.m. Friday), a harrowing account as seen through German eyes. TCM

A little help from his friends

“Ringo Starr: A Lifetime of Peace and Love” salutes the fourth Beatle in an evening that includes Bettye LaVette reminding us that “It Don’t Come Easy,” Ben Folds exclaiming “Oh My My” and Joe Walsh getting into the “Back Off Boogaloo.” Tune in if only to figure out why comedian Jim Carrey is on the stage. 7 p.m. Sunday, AXS TV

Strange bedfellows

“Masters of Sex,”one of the most pleasant surprises from last season, returns with William Masters (Michael Sheen) unshackled from the security of the hospital while tying himself closer to assistant Virginia Johnson (Lizzy Caplan). While I’m eager to see how these characters move forward in their relationship, I’m even more excited to see how the writers use guest star Sarah Silverman who, in her last series, had a one-night stand with God. Love to see what Masters would make of that relationship. 9 p.m. Sunday, Showtime

Creep show

Guillermo del Toro, who dazzled us with “Hellboy” and “Pan’s Labyrinth,” turns his attention to the small screen with “The Strain,” a nasty, paranoia-driven drama in which tiny worms crawl out of people’s eyes and bystanders get their heads smashed in. As the title of the fourth episode suggests, “It’s Not for Everyone.” A complete review can be found in Sunday’s Variety section. 9 p.m. Sunday, FX
