TV picks for July 6-10: "Extant,” Miley Cyrus, "Blossom,” Working the Engels”

Halle Berry in “Extant.”

The final frontier

A decade ago, it would have seemed incredible to have Halle Berry headline a network TV series, but with her career cooling down and juicy film roles for — ahem — middle-aged women drying up, it’s perfectly natural to see her star in “Extant,” a sci-fi series about an astronaut who returns from a yearlong space mission, only to find out she’s with child (and, no, the father isn’t “Gravity” hunk George Clooney). Not that the Oscar winning actress is slumming it, as Steven Spielberg is listed as an executive producer. Still, the first episode doesn’t suggest there’s enough story here to fill 13 hours, and Berry appears to believe that showing off only one expression is a grand form of acting. If there’s not a bit more drama soon, the countdown could begin all too soon. 8 p.m. Wednesday, WCCO, Ch. 4

She can’t stop

“Miley Cyrus: Bangerz Tour” shows highlights from the pop singer’s adventures in international hot spots, including Barcelona and Lisbon. Because this is network TV as opposed to racy cable, Cyrus promises not to show anything more controversial than footage of her leaving the hotel bathroom without washing her hands. 8 p.m. Sunday, KARE, Ch. 4

Her opinionation

Before she was dying for the affection of Jim Parsons on “The Big Bang Theory,” Mayim Bialik was dancing like a girl with an overdose of Ritalin in the opening credits of “Blossom,” the popular ’90s sitcom that is being broadcast on cable TV for the first time. As a younger Joey Lawrence might say: “Whoa!” 9 p.m. weekdays, Hub

Edith Prickley returns

We haven’t seen much of Andrea Martin since her “SCTV” days, as the versatile actress has chosen to focus more on stage work. So it’s a real pleasure to see her back on the small screen in “Working the Engels,” a less-than-ambitious sitcom that shines every time she makes an appearance as an overly dramatic mother of a family facing bankruptcy. How long do we have to wait for a Catherine O’Hara cameo? 8:30 p.m. KARE, Ch. 11 Neal Justin
