Have a seat

The newly formed El Rey Network shows its commitment to great moviemaking with the series "The Director's Chair," which one can assume will be more than a tribute to outstanding furniture. John Carpenter, the man behind "Halloween" and "Escape From L.A." gets things started. Stick around afterward for an all-day tribute to his flicks. Noon Saturday, El Rey.

New kid in town

Put "Rosemary's Baby" under the file of unnecessary remakes. Not that I've actually watched the new miniseries. Why would I bother when the Roman Polanski original is available on Netflix? Of course, I could be wrong. Maybe this version, starring Zoe Saldana, has a unique twist. Could the infant actually be — gasp! — a Kardashian? Now that's terror. 8 p.m. Sunday and Thursday, KARE, Ch. 11.

Penny for your thoughts

"Penny Dreadful" is a bloody mess—and that's sort of a compliment. Creator John Logan has taken horror to a whole new level, fully embracing the genre with unrelenting violence. If you're even slightly squeamish, stay far, far away. Check out Sunday's Variety section for an interview with the show's star, Josh Hartnett. 9 p.m. Sunday, Showtime

Summer school

"Oprah's Master Class" kicks off a new season with Justin Timberlake, who is certain to educate eager students on how to get sexy back. Future guests include Robin Roberts, Barbara Walters, Billy Bob Thornton and Sharon Stone. 9 p.m. Sunday, OWN
