Fred Armisen, honing his musical skills on “SNL.”

Revisionist history

Ah, Oscar season, when fact-based films get sliced and diced over their lack of accuracy. Accusations have arisen that Matthew McConaughey’s protagonist in “Dallas Buyers Club” was actually bisexual and no homophobe, and that “American Hustle,” styled as a comic drama, omits the eventual suicide of the Jennifer Lawrence character. Even animation isn’t safe: Some say Hiyao Miyazaki’s “The Wind Rises” whitewashes Japanese brutality and war crimes.

A-one and a-two

Old “SNL” buddy Fred Armisen will lead the house band for Seth Meyers’ “Late Night,” even while he’s shooting episodes of “Portlandia.” … Jeff Tweedy of Wilco guest-stars on “Parks and Recreation” as the former leader of a band called Land Ho! … Idina Menzel, Karen O and U2 will perform nominated songs at the Oscars.

The music continues

Anna Kendrick and Rebel Wilson have signed on for “Pitch Perfect 2,” which also marks the directorial debut for Elizabeth Banks. … James Franco is making a movie about the making of a movie: the cult classic “The Room.” … Ron Howard’s latest based-on-a-true-story film will be “Mena,” the story of an ’80s drug runner. … Will Smith will celebrate July 4, 2016, by not starring in the “Independence Day” sequel that opens that day.
