The half-century mark

We spent much of last year reflecting back on 1963. Now it's time to wax nostalgic about "1964" (7 p.m., TPT, Ch. 2), another pivotal year for everything from the War on Poverty to the battle for women's rights. This well-done film is particularly effective when looking back on Barry Goldwater and his impact on the modern conservative movement.

Still friends

Monica Geller may have traded coffee for wine, but she's still got a soft spot for Chandler Bing. Yes, it's time for the inevitable guest appearance by Matthew Perry on Courteney Cox's series, "Cougar Town" (9 p.m., TBS). He plays a smitten stranger who falls for Jules after a minor car accident.

League of his own

You may know Nick Kroll from his character on "The League," but he's also a top-notch sketch artist, as he proves in the second-season premiere of the weirdly wonderful "Kroll Show" (9:30 p.m., Comedy). Among the best recurring bits: the misadventures of the "PubLIZity" girls, featuring a very funny Jenny Slate.
