Just plain folk
"Another Day, Another Time: Celebrating the Music of 'Inside Llewyn Davis' " (9 p.m. Friday, Showtime) features music that inspired the Coen brothers' movie about the Greenwich Village folk scene in the 1960s. Joan Baez, Patti Smith, Carey Mulligan and Jack White are among the performers stepping into the time machine.
A good man
John Goodman is on a roll, thanks to scene-stealing appearances in "Argo," "Flight" and "Alpha House." Maybe that's why NBC has invited him back to host "Saturday Night Live" (10:29 p.m. Saturday, KARE, Ch. 11), a gig he's done 12 times, but not since 2001. Kings of Leon are the musical guests.
The singing detectives
James Roday and Dulé Hill may not be ready for Broadway, but they're more than capable of livening up a two-hour musical edition of "Psych" (8 p.m. Sunday, USA). The lighthearted detective series features 14 original songs, as well as a guest appearance by Ally Sheedy, who reprises her look from "The Breakfast Club."
All is bright
The Minnesota Opera often gets overshadowed by better known arts institutions in the Twin Cities. That changes, at least for one night, with the nationwide airing of its "Silent Night" (8 p.m. Friday, TPT, Ch. 2), which won composer Kevin Puts the Pulitzer Prize. The work dramatizes the "Christmas truce" of WWI when soldiers from three armies met in no man's land to break bread, play football and sing carols. It's a classy way to celebrate both the holidays and our local talent. Neal Justin
