Electric ‘Train’

Prepare to get experienced with “American Masters: Jimi Hendrix — Hear My Train a Comin’ ” (8 p.m., TPT, Ch. 2), a new documentary featuring newly discovered footage of the master blaster at the 1968 Miami Pop Festival, as well as excerpts from Hendrix’s own collection of home movies.

Beware the ‘Beast’

Simon Cowell has now been officially replaced as our favorite British grouch by Mark Labbett, the 370-pound mastermind who makes mere mortals look clueless in “The Chase” (7 p.m., GSN), a game show primarily for smarty pants. Brooke Burns continues to do a fine job as host of this fast-paced, challenging treat.

Country comforts

“In the Spotlight With Robin Roberts: Countdown to the CMAs” (9 p.m., KSTP, Ch. 5) features a peek at Shania Twain’s Las Vegas show, a conversation with Dolly Parton and Kenny Rogers about duets and a shameless infomercial for “Nashville,” which airs on the same network.
