CBS’s new single-camera comedy “We Are Men” follows four single guys living in a short-term apartment complex who unexpectedly find camaraderie over their many missteps in love.

Wasted days, wasted nights

It’s hard to pick the biggest waste of talent in this new TV season, but I’m nominating the casting of Tony Shalhoub in “We Are Men” (7:30 p.m., WCCO, Ch. 4), yet another sitcom in which men act like spoiled little boys. Shalhoub, an Emmy winner for “Monk,” deserves better. So do we.

Just a city boy

Filipino vocalist Arnel Pineda, who became the unexpected singer for Journey, is profiled in “Don’t Stop Believin’: Everyman’s Journey” (9 p.m., TPT, Ch. 2), a new installment of “Independent Lens.” It’s a great rags-to-riches story, but the lack of comments from Steve Perry, the band’s original singer, feels weird.

Johnson & Johnson

Now that the State Fair has concluded, Robbinsdale’s Marjorie Johnson, also known as “The Blue Ribbon Baker,” has time to shuffle off to Los Angeles to pay a visit to “The Tonight Show With Jay Leno” (10:35 p.m., KARE, Ch. 11). An extra treat: She’ll have a chance to catch up with her long-lost brother, Magic Johnson, who will also be a guest.
