Bye, George

Last update: June 27, 2008 - 11:48 AM

Bye, George

Of all the tributes to George Carlin, who died this week, the most fitting may be the rebroadcast of the 1975 series premiere of "Saturday Night Live" (10:30 p.m. Saturday, KARE, Ch. 11), which he hosted. His three cutting-edge monologues featured throughout the show set the tone for all high jinks to come. The very weird, very wonderful Andy Kaufman also appears.

Whistle while you work

Despite my pitch-perfect, haunting voice, I am constantly told by my colleagues to hush my humming. If only they had followed my lead and joined in, we could have competed on the new series "The Singing Office" (8 p.m. Sunday, TLC), in which co-workers have a chance to sing and dance their way to fame and fortune. At least we still have the Nick Coleman Barbershop Quartet. (Performing at an Irish pub near you.)

Circle of life

Kelly Preston stars in "The Tenth Circle" (6 p.m. Sunday, Lifetime), an adaptation of Jodi Picoult's bestselling book, which Preston promises will be more frightening and disturbing than hubby John Travolta's performance in "Hairspray."

NEAL JUSTIN

The doctors are in

Alex Kingston may have left "ER," but she clearly still has a thing for doctors as she scrubs in with "Doctor Who" (8 p.m. today, Sci Fi). Sherry Stringfield, another "ER" vet, also has guest-star duty, appearing as a naive spouse forced into witness protection on "In Plain Sight" (9 p.m. Sunday, USA). We'd like to report that George Clooney will be appearing on "Swingtown," but at press time, that could not be confirmed.
