TV picks for May 24-30:  'Smash,' 'Nicky,' 'Deuce,' 'American Restoration,' 'Dancing Fools,' Clint Eastwood

Sunday

Give NBC credit for taking a chance on “Smash” (8 p.m., KARE, Ch. 11), an ambitious series that bows out with a two-hour finale. Some of the story lines were beyond ridiculous, but the musical numbers had more pop and class than anything we’ve had to endure on “Glee.”

Monday

“The Sopranos” gang is getting back together — but not in a way you would imagine. James Gandolfini and Michael Imperioli are among the mobsters appearing in the kids movie “Nicky Deuce” (7 p.m., Nick). The movie is based on a book co-written by Steve Schirripa, who played sweet Bobby on the legendary series.

Tuesday

As you may recall, Billy Joel may be crazy because he “even rode my motorcycle in the rain.” Now he’s having his BSA 850 bike restored by Rick Dale on “American Restoration” (9 p.m., History). As added pressure, Dale will have to do his surgery while the piano man belts out every verse of “We Didn’t Start the Fire.”

Wednesday

Minneapolis native Melissa Peterman hosts “Dancing Fools” (8 p.m., ABC Family), in which the spotlight is on people with outrageous moves. Sounds like the perfect vehicle for Elaine Benes.

Thursday

Richard Schickel, who has made a mini-career of exploring the work of Clint Eastwood, is at it again with “Eastwood Directs: The Untold Story” (7 p.m., TCM). Stick around for Eastwood’s “White Hunter Black Heart” (8:15 p.m.), an underrated gem about the making of “The African Queen.”
