'Stripe Tease'

This weekend: Choreographer Chris Schlichting teams up with visual artist Jennifer Davis and the band Alpha Consumer (Jeremy Ylvisaker, Mike Lewis and JT Bates) for a newly commissioned piece co-presented with the Walker and the National Performance Network. Schlichting, whose name is starting to get noticed nationally, is no stranger to the Walker, having curated its "Choreographer's Evening" in 2011. He also was showcased in the "Momentum" series in 2009 and was commissioned by the Walker to create a piece for the 25th anniversary of the Minneapolis Sculpture Garden. "Stripe Tease" came at the heels of the Sculpture Garden piece, Schlichting said. This piece has been a process of integration with collaborators. Not so much a conceptual piece as one that's organically evolved, it will be a chance to see a collision of artists' voices. (8 p.m. Thu.-Sat., Walker Art Center, 1750 Hennepin Av. S., Mpls.; $25, 612-375-7600 or walkerart.org.)

Camille A. Brown & Dancers

Feb. 21: A discussion-generating article published on salon.com last week in the wake of another Kanye West awards-show opining posits that white performers are given a "roomier identity" in which to explore their art than are black performers. Camille A. Brown and company are well-equipped to weigh in on the topic via twirls, stomps and graceful gyrations. Brave, smart and a heckuva lot of fun to watch, Brown's choreography always tells a strong story with muscular theatrics. This time around in a one-night event co-presented by the Ordway, the company takes on the stereotype struggles of black women, the historically complicated cultural dynamics faced by black artists and the exuberant-amid-crisis traditions of New Orleans' second-line parades.
