"Neel: Blutopias of Radical Dreaming": Choreographer Ananya Chatterjea has never shied away from such big issues as racism, social justice, violence against women and war, but she also knows how to take her audience on a transcendent journey using her unique blend of the Indian dance form Odissi, yoga and Chau, a martial arts technique. "Neel: Blutopias of Radical Dreaming" enters into the realm of women's dreams where beauty, horror, sensuality and joy all exist. "Neel" is Bangla for "blues," while "Blutopia" is the name of a short piece created by Duke Ellington in 1944, so it's fitting that Chatterjea's latest work (marking her Ananya Dance Theatre's 10th anniversary) is all about the musical eloquence of pain and pleasure. Along with 10 ADT dancers, the work features guest performer Shá Cage, plus a stirring, almost psychedelic score from composer Greg Schutte, text by Sharon Bridgforth and soaring recorded vocals from Chastity Brown, Mankwe Ndosi and Pooja Goswami.

"The Main Street Project": Choreographer Mathew Janczewski ponders whether small-town America still exists as a gathering point for people across the generations. Or perhaps it's a virtual place now, defined by all the different avenues social media forms offer. The members of Arena Dances may not find answers in this work, but they are certainly not alone in asking these questions. On Sept. 15 from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Marriott Courtyard (1500 Washington Av. S., Mpls.) get a sneak peek of the work's images by photographers Jake Armour, Keri Pickett and Wing Young Huie that will be projected on walls around the city in connection with "The Main Street Project" premiere.

Anne Teresa de Keersmaeker: When the Belgian choreographer created the groundbreaking dance work "Rosas danst Rosas" 31 years ago, she probably didn't realize what a stir it would inspire in postmodern dance circles. She certainly couldn't have imagined that a 21st-century pop star named Beyoncé would use snippets of "Rosas" in her recent music video "Countdown." This production is sleek, technically rigorous, fiercely feminist and still relevant. A must-see for any dance fan — and it's Queen Bey-approved.
