EVITA

Tuesday-next Sunday: Why bring “Evita” to St. Paul’s Ordway Center in August when it played Minneapolis’ Orpheum Theatre in January? “It’s a great musical with memorable songs, beautiful choreography and an excellent cast,” said Ordway President and CEO Patricia Mitchell. She also noted that the Ordway’s research shows there’s relatively little overlap between audiences for touring Broadway shows on respective sides of the Mississippi. The Tony-winning Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber musical charts the rise and tragic end of Eva Perón, one of history’s most enigmatic figures. Michael Grandage directs this production choreographed by Rob Ashford. The musical’s best-known number, “Don’t Cry for Me Argentina,” could also have been the anthem to that country’s World Cup team, which lost to Germany in the final match. (7:30 p.m. Tue.-Fri., 2 & 7:30 p.m. Sat.-Sun., Ordway Center, 5th and Washington Sts., St. Paul, $36-$105, 651-224-4222, or ordway.org. )
