THE 39 STEPS
Opening: Yellow Tree takes on this adventurous, sardonic riff on the Alfred Hitchcock movie. Anne Byrd directs the stage adaptation, which turns a suspense thriller about a British chap caught in a spy ring into a kind of sketch-comedy spoof. A production two years ago at the Guthrie was a huge success. Sean Byrd portrays the central character of Robert Hannay. Three other actors play more than 100 other roles. (7:30 p.m. Fri.-Sat., Wed.-Thu., ends June 22, Yellow Tree, 320 5th Av. SE., Osseo, $17-$23, 763-493-8733 or yellowtreetheatre.com.)
