'ALMOST MAINE'

Opening Friday: Billed as a romantic comedy, this piece seems aptly aimed at the season. It takes place in a remote town in Maine on a cold, clear winter night. A number of residents fall in and out of love under the glow of the Northern Lights. Ken Knutson directs a cast of eight at Old Log Theater. The play was written by John Cariani and first performed at the Portland (Maine, obviously, not Oregon) Stage Company in 2004. It made an appearance two years later off-Broadway and since then has become a popular entertainment throughout the country. (7:30 p.m. Fri.-Sat., 2 p.m. next Sun. $16-$35. Ends March 28. Old Log, 5185 Meadville St., Excelsior. 952-474-5951, www.oldlog.com.)
