Weisman Turns 20

Continuing: No longer a teen, the Weisman Art Museum officially turns 20 on Sunday. Frank Gehry's jaunty, cubistic box overlooking the Mississippi River has aged well, its shiny skin gleaming a welcome to University of Minnesota visitors and its skylit galleries still among the city's most gracious. The museum is celebrating its 20th season with three sequential exhibitions showcasing 400 artworks added to its collection in the past 20 years. The first show, running Sunday through Jan. 5, features art chosen in 20 ways. Expect to see the choices of director Lyndel King along with those picked by tour guides and other staffers. There will be things large and small, old and new, serious and whimsical in paintings, photos, sculpture, ceramics and even furniture. (11 a.m.-5 p.m. Sat.-Sun.; 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Tue. & Thu.-Fri; 10 a.m.-8 p.m. Wed. Free. Weisman Art Museum, 333 East River Road, University of Minnesota, Mpls. 612-625-9494 or www.weisman.umn.edu)
