'More Real? Art in the Age of Truthiness'
Opening Thursday: Politicians spin, singers lip sync, photographers Photoshop, reality television shows aren't at all "real." Such is the Age of Truthiness, as comedian Stephen Colbert cleverly labeled the present moment. In "More Real?" more than 25 international contemporary artists offer their own sophisticated fakery, including the 1950s office of a fictional museum curator, faux tours of real cities, the video-gaming of real wars, new Chinese "antiquities," a videographer's re-creation of a famous Velázquez painting and more, including the photo above by Seung Woo Back. The show has a "savvy, politically charged feel, offering delightful and disturbing views into contemporary culture," said Art in America about its debut in Santa Fe, N.M.
