MODERN DANCE PIONEER

Friday-Saturday: In the 1960s Deborah Hay trained and toured with Merce Cunningham and was a significant voice in the Judson Dance Theater, a group of artists who led the shift into postmodern and experimental movement. Since 1976 the Bessie award winner has been based in Austin, Texas, teaching community workshops and continuing to develop her singular perspective. The Walker performances are different each night. On Friday dancers Ros Warby and Jeanine Durning perform "Fire" (2001) and "No Time to Fly" (2010). On Saturday they return for the duet "As Holy Sites Go" (2011). Hear from Hay herself at 7 p.m. Wed. in a free presentation with readings and video titled "A Lecture on the Performance of Beauty." (8 p.m. Fri.-Sat. $18, $30 for both shows. Walker Art Center, 1750 Hennepin Av. S., Mpls. 612-375-7600 or www.walkerart.org.)
