Choreographers, dancers, educators and designers were honored Wednesday night at the Sage Awards for Dance. The program, in its fifth year, recognized 11 individuals or companies in a ceremony at the Walker Art Center's McGuire Theater.
OUTSTANDING PERFORMERS were Taryn Griggs, Tamara Ober and Kristin Van Loon.
OUTSTANDING PERFORMANCE honors were given to John Munger for "Lord Cutglass," Hijack for "O.M.G.P.Y.T.M.K.T." and Chris Yon for "The Infinite Multiverse."
IN DESIGN categories, Vanessa Voskuil, John Koch, David Mehrer, Karen Sherman and Jeremy Wilhelm received Sage Awards.
Jane Shockley, a founding member of Zenon and an adjunct faculty member at Carleton College, was honored as outstanding dance educator. Sachiko Nishiuchi, a resident artist of Susana di Palma's Zorongo Flamenco Dance Theatre in Minneapolis, received the People's Choice award.
Special citations were given to Wild Goose Chase Cloggers, a group that promotes traditional Appalachian clogging, and DeLaSouljah Steppers, a step team from DeLaSalle High School.
The Sages are named for Sage Cowles, dancer and supporter of the dance community.
