This weekend: If there such a thing as a hip-hop hootenanny, "Steppin' Out" might qualify. The evening of percussive hoofing and music at the Southern Theater features dance styles with a variety of continental roots: clogging, British folk dance by way of Appalachia; African-American step dance, the subject of recent movies; and hip-hop, which syncretizes everything from the Brazilian martial arts form known as capoeira to jazz and dancehall reggae. The bill, a return of a popular entry in a recent festival, features the Wild Goose Chase Cloggers, the DeLaSouljah Steppers and hip-hop artist RDM. There will also be a live string band in an evening that yokes the rural with the urban. (8 p.m. today, 2 & 8 p.m. Sat., 5 p.m. Sun., Southern Theater, 1420 Washington Av. S., Mpls. $18. 612-340-725. www.southerntheater.org).
