MAVIS STAPLES

Wednesday-Thursday: She romanced Bob Dylan in the 1960s on the folk circuit. She recorded with Prince in the late 1980s and early '90s. She entered the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame with the Staple Singers in 1999. At age 70, Staples is an American music treasure. She has sung gospel, R&B, rock, blues and jazz. Her most recent studio album, 2007's "We'll Never Turn Back," focused on spirituals of the civil rights movement. In 2008, she offered "Live: Hope at the Hideout," which goes from a growling "Wade in the Water" to a roof-raising "I'll Take You There." The CD is vying for a Grammy for best contemporary blues album; Staples also sings on the compilation "Oh Happy Day," which is up for a Grammy for best traditional gospel album. (7 p.m. Wed.-Thu. $40-$65. Dakota Jazz Club, 1010 Nicollet Mall, Mpls. 612-332-1010.)
