Holiday spotlight: Anonymous 4

Last update: November 14, 2009 - 6:23 PM

'THE CHERRY TREE'

Dec. 9: Marsha Genensky, Ruth Cunningham, Jacqueline Horner-Kwiatek and Susan Hellauer of Anonymous 4 may not have a patent on heavenly vocalism, but their musical scholarship and pitch-perfect sublimity have kept them far from anonymous for nearly two decades. Their holiday touring program mingles two repertoires they've made their own: late-medieval English carols (sung in Middle English, in their original settings) and traditional American shape-note tunes. Highlights include music by pioneering American composer William Billings and 19th-century folk hymns. (7:30 p.m. Dec. 9. $25-$100. Basilica of St. Mary, 16th St. and Hennepin Av. S., Mpls. 612-317-3428 or www.mary.org/anonymous4.)
