Cameo critic: Colin Meloy

Last update: June 21, 2009 - 12:09 AM

If the Decemberists' singer/guitarist Colin Meloy didn't hang around and party after headlining Saturday's Rock the Garden concert outside Walker Art Center, it was probably because he had to return to his summer reading.

CHRIS RIEMENSCHNEIDER

"I'm really enjoying a book called 'Shadow Country' by Peter Matthiessen. It's a trilogy about Florida around the turn of the 19th to 20th century, and this infamous sugar cane farmer named Edgar Watson. It's kind of a mammoth undertaking, but it's pretty amazing. I'm trying to at least finish the second part of it before I launch into [David Foster Wallace's] 'Infinite Jest,' which I'm also trying to get in over the summer."
