The St. Paul Chamber Orchestra has announced the concerts in its 2014-15 Liquid Music series. The initiative, which will be in its third year, features new works or innovative collaborations that expand the boundaries and definitions of classical music.

Third Coast Percussion and Glenn Kotche will open the season Oct. 5-6 in the Music Room at the SPCO Center in St. Paul. Their new work, "Wild Sound," was co-commissioned with the University of Notre Dame. Kotche is best known as the drummer for Wilco and collaborates with other groups (such as the Kronos Quartet). Third Coast is a percussion group based in Chicago.

Dawn of Midi and Nils Frahm will perform Nov. 15 at the Amsterdam Bar & Hall in a co-presentation with the Walker Art Center. Dawn of Midi is a jazz combo that draws from expanded influences of minimalism and world music. Nils Frahm is a Berlin-based composer and keyboardist.

Julia Holter, described as an "avant pop composer/performer," will appear with the Spektral Quartet (a string ensemble based in Chicago) on Feb. 23 at the Amsterdam, a downtown St. Paul nightclub that Liquid Music likes to use.

Perhaps the largest show on the season will be Helado Negro with special guests and the Minneapolis Music Company. The concert will contribute to the opening festivities of Ordway Center's new concert hall on March 21. The hall will serve as the SPCO's downtown home. Helado Negro (Roberto Carlos Lange) mixes Latin influences with rock and electronic beats.

Liquid Music co-presents the music of composer Bryce Dessner on April 3 at Walker Art Center. Dessner, a composer/guitarist, is known for his work with the band the National.

The following month, on May 9, the Walker is again the host for a program featuring electric guitarist Noveller, singer Glasser and the new classical chamber ensemble Victoire.

The season concludes with a program called "Spiritual America" by indie rock group Wye Oak and electro-acoustic group Bright Wave. The June 11 show will be at the Amsterdam. The concert features songs by William Brittelle, a Brooklyn-based composer.

Liquid Music is curated by Kate Nordstrum for the SPCO. Two previous seasons have featured Laurie Anderson, Hilary Hahn, Timo Andres and Ben Frost.

Information on the season is at 651-291-1144 or the SPCO's website.
