Spotlight: 10KLF Festival

Last update: July 19, 2008 - 11:48 AM

10,000 LAKES FEST

WEDNESDAY-SATURDAY: Minnesota rock fans who've been flying around the country to hit big fests such as Bonnaroo and Coachella can find something similar closer to home during this airfare-challenged summer. The sixth annual 10KLF is in a picturesque setting (country fans swarm it every year for WE Fest), and it has its most eclectic lineup yet. Oklahoma's psychedelic wonders the Flaming Lips (above), who are playing only festivals this summer, are the big draw, along with the requisite Dead guys, Phil Lesh and Mickey Hart, each playing with his own band. Also on the bill: George Clinton and his dizzying P-Funk lineup, who were a blast at First Ave two months ago, and rising New Orleans funk blowers Bonerama; innovative jazz greats Medeski, Scofield, Martin & Wood and the Bad Plus; jam-band stars Leftover Salmon and Dark Star Orchestra, and a couple of dozen more. (Soo Pass Ranch in Detroit Lakes, Minn. $54/day ($30 Wed.), $140/four-day. www.10KLF.com.)
