Miranda Lambert, who performed at Mystic Lake Casino last month and will return to the State Fair Aug. 25, is a little bit country and a little bit rock 'n' roll. So she talked about her favorite country star, Merle Haggard, and her favorite rocker of the moment, Susan Tedeschi.
"He lived hard and wasn't afraid to put it on an album. He's so true; he doesn't hold back. He's really honest in his music -- I think what country's always been about and should forever be about. Merle would write about divorce and trouble with his wife and going to jail. He just wasn't afraid. He's absolutely one of my heroes. I have his box set in my CD player -- at least one CD from it at all times.
"I love Susan Tedeschi. Her album called 'Just Won't Burn' is the s---. You can print that. She has an incredible voice, incredible guitar player. She's just like a rockin' chick."
