Dave Murray and Bruce Dickinson of Iron Maiden performed at the RBC Royal Bank Bluesfest in Ottawa.
Thursday-next Sunday: It's a strong year overall for west central Wisconsin's big headbanger camp-out, but Rock Fest pulled off a major coup in nabbing Iron Maiden to headline its third of four nights. The enduring British metal giants and their sidekick Eddie are touring all summer with Alice Cooper -- ol' Alice is also part of Saturday's lineup -- but they inexplicably keep skipping the Twin Cities. The same can't be said for Sunday's closing-night headliners, Def Leppard and Poison, who play around here all the time but are enjoying another popularity spike thanks to Tom Cruise and "Rock of Ages." The Thursday and Friday lineups lean more toward the modern, with Shinedown and Godsmack, respectively. Other acts performing through the weekend include Papa Roach, Buckcherry, Lita Ford, Sebastian Bach, Five Finger Death Punch and Sevendust. (Cadott Festival Grounds, 24447 Hwy. S., Cadott, Wis. $87.50 daily, $175/four-day, plus camping fees, www.rock-fest.com.)
