YOUR GUIDE TO THE TWIN CITIES
The cancellation comes a month after the death of his mother. "Idol" star Blake Lewis has been added to the Friday night concert.
Singer Kanye West
Akin to the Twins trading Johan Santana for a couple of minor leaguers, producers of tonight's KDWB Jingle Ball at Target Center have replaced hip-hop superstar Kanye West with "American Idol" runner-up Blake Lewis and passé rapper Fabolous.
West dropped out of the show with only a few days notice, citing "a family matter." His mother, Donda West, died Nov. 10 of complications from cosmetic surgery. However, the Chicago rapper has performed several gigs in Europe since then.
"We tried to get him on the air to explain all this to fans, but he refused," said KDWB program director Rob Morris. "We did everything we could to save this thing."
With Avril Lavigne, Timbaland, Good Charlotte and Jordin Sparks also performing, Jingle Ball organizers hope fans will not ask for their money back. Nonetheless, refunds are available at place of purchase.
