A group that never seems to pick its best tracks as singles, Swedish punks the Hives have once again hidden a few gems on their latest disc, "The Black and White Album." The sneaky standout in this case is "Return the Favour," a snide and blistering Iggy Pop/New York Dolls-style rocker -- aren't they all? -- buried at track No. 9. Prediction: "Favour" will be a future encore highlight at shows. That said, the single that did get picked, "Tick Tick Boom," still does a fine job selling the album's explosive energy. Whatever you think of Howlin' Pelle Almqvist's frontman antics and the band's matching suits, "Black and White" rocks plain and simple.
