Prince gives rambling retort to some fans

Last update: November 11, 2007 - 7:11 PM

Mess with Prince and he'll write a song about you. That's what happened in the battle between the Purple One and a handful of prominent fan-operated websites, including the highly regarded prince.org. His lawyers asked the sites to cease and desist from using lyrics, album covers and "anything linked to Prince's likeness." Last week, the fan sites responded by protesting with a new site, www.princesfanunited.com.

Touché! Prince has retorted with a seven-minute blast of funk called "PFUnk" (PFU, as in PrinceFansUnited) at his own www.3121.com. It was reportedly recorded Thursday night at Paisley Park in Chanhassen. The lyrics ramble all over the place, but you can get the essence at left.

Of course, the Minnesota music icon has a sense of humor about it. He ends the piece with a reference to the hopelessly struggling, winless Minnesota Timberwolves, the NBA team whose games he used to attend.

"I'm out like the Wolves in the 1st/Awwh, but, we go'n get it 2gether though./Pookie, the limo warm?/Alright, cool./Peace y'all. Hmm. Stay funky." He giggles.
