YOUR GUIDE TO THE TWIN CITIES
"Ronia, the Robber's Daughter"
If you haven't attended Oak Street Cinema's annual screenings of this rollicking fantasia of medieval bandit clans, forest trolls and plucky young heroes, here are a few convincers. First, exclusivity. This is the world's only complete English-subtitled print of the Scandinavian kids' classic, a pristine copy struck largely because Minnesota Film Arts wore the sprockets off the older prints. Second, tradition. After 25 years as MFA's holiday offering, "Ronia" (★★★, unrated but suitable for all audiences) is as much a part of the season as icicles. Third, nostalgia. This will be a farewell to regular programming at the Oak Street as Minnesota Film Arts moves its operations to the St. Anthony Main five-plex. Finally, novelty. The film is showing with another rarely seen Astrid Lindgren children's adventure, "The Brothers Lionheart," whose young heroes battle a tyrant and his dragon. So take one last trip under the antiquated Oak Street marquee, settle into the Art Deco auditorium and let the robber's daughter steal your heart away. (Sat.-Wed. & Jan. 2-3 with "Lionheart" at 1 p.m. and "Ronia" at 4 p.m. In Swedish, subtitled. $5-$7. 309 SE. Oak St., Mpls. 612-331-3134 or www.mnfilmarts.org)
