Joel and Ethan Coen received their second consecutive screenplay nomination from the Writers Guild of America on Wednesday for their original spy comedy "Burn After Reading." The brothers won the award for adapted screenplay last year for "No Country for Old Men."
Other films with Minnesota connections were well represented in the WGA nominations. Former Minneapolitan Tom McCarthy's immigrant drama "The Visitor" was nominated for best original screenplay. "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button," based on a short story by F. Scott Fitzgerald, earned screenwriter Eric Roth a best-adaptation nod. And "Chicago 10," executive-produced by Minneapolis-based Bill Pohlad and written by Brett Morgen, will compete in the documentary category. Last year's WGA winners "No Country" and Diablo Cody's "Juno" went on to win Oscars.
