The Dish: What's Italian

Last update: November 20, 2008 - 6:01 PM

What's Italian for milkshake?

He's at it again: The notorious Method man Daniel Day-Lewis can't stop speaking Italian even while not on set for "Nine," in which he plays lady-loving director Guido Contini alongside Nicole Kidman, Penélope Cruz, Kate Hudson, Marion Cotillard and Sophia Loren. "He's always waving his arms and telling the chef to whip up some pasta," said one source. Maybe he could put some of his Bill the Butcher skills to use.

The final reel

Guillermo del Toro will produce a stop-motion version of "Pinocchio" with the Jim Henson Co. ... Clint Eastwood is the rumored director for the supernatural-themed "Hereafter," written by Peter Morgan ("The Queen," "Frost/Nixon"). ... Speculation abounds on the categories for which "The Dark Knight" might grab an Oscar nomination, but one has been ruled out: original score. The eligibility committee ruled that too many composers were involved. ... "Quantum of Solace" director Marc Forster's next project is "World War Z," based on the bestselling novel about flesh-eating zombies by Max Brooks (son of Mel). ... Universal and Imagine are in the early stages of developing a third "Nutty Professor" movie, eight years after "The Klumps" filled the screen, and we mean filled. Eddie Murphy is not yet attached. Maybe he can talk some sense into someone and keep this one buried.
