Judy Garland in “The Wizard of Oz”

Hey, wasn’t there already a 3-D “Wizard of Oz” this year? Oh, that was “Oz the Great and Powerful,” the quasi-prequel starring James Franco, not the 1939 Judy Garland original. To celebrate the classic’s upcoming 75th anniversary, it’s being given a one-week Imax theatrical run, beginning Friday. The newly converted version, restored from the original Technicolor negative, gives the Kansas twister, the Wicked Witch of the West and her flying monkeys the stereoscopic once-over. It’s gratifying to see this beloved film being rereleased in theaters, since most “Wizard” fans know it only via home video. In a big-screen presentation, the Lion is cowardlier, the rainbow is bigger, the Tin Woodman is squeakier, the Munchkins are munchier and Dorothy is more adorable. We’re off. … (Arbor Lakes, Eden Prairie, Rosedale, Southdale.)
