Carry on without him

Jim Carrey will not be promoting "Kick-Ass 2," having had a change of attitude after a recent screening. He tweets: "I did Kickass a month b4 Sandy Hook and now in all good conscience I cannot support that level of violence. My apologies to others involve[d] with the film. I am not ashamed of it but recent events have caused a change in my heart." Carrey's curious mea culpa might have carried more weight in December.

The final reel

Universal Pictures has chosen a woman, Sam Taylor-Johnson, to direct "50 Shades of Grey." Will she cast husband Aaron Taylor-Johnson ("Kick-Ass") in a certain role? … Anne Hathaway will play a woman on trial for murder in 1914, in "The Lifeboat." … Anna Kendrick will play Cinderella in the fairy-tale adaptation "Into the Woods," joining Meryl Streep, Johnny Depp, Chris Pine, Jake Gyllenhaal and Emily Blunt. … A "World War Z" sequel is already in the works. … Will Smith is too expensive for the planned "Independence Day" sequels, but the studio managed to snag Bill Pullman and Jeff Goldblum.
