Trash-film connoisseur Theresa Kay will host next week’s  “Defenders” screening.

THE DEFENDERS

“The Defenders” is a two-year-old program at Trylon Microcinema that each month invites a local art-world notable to present a movie he or she feels is underappreciated, then argue its virtues with the audience. The catch? Viewers don’t know in advance what the movie will be. So in the spirit of “What the heck, it’s only $8,” we recommend that you take the leap of faith. The June hostess will be Theresa Kay, longtime curator of Trash Film Debauchery, a floating film series that screens cult oddities and B movies at the Turf Club, Trylon and Ritz theaters. With her encyclopedic knowledge of exploitation cinema, whatever it is she’s preparing to defend must be a doozy. Buckle up. If you’re hooked, visit next month for Minneapolis Arts Commission member Blake Iverson’s session, and in August when “Defenders” series creator Jim Brunzell III reveals all 12 top-secret previous screenings. (7 p.m., Wed. Trylon Microcinema, 3258 Minnehaha Av. S., Mpls., $8 at the door or online at take-up.org.)
