Kathryn Newton in "Paranormal Activity 4."
While "Paranormal Activity 4" (R for language and some violence/terror) wasn't screened for review, the series' faux-documentary formula is tested and true. A suburban family, whose home is heavily equipped with nanny-cams, will be assaulted by occult spirits. It's a safe wager that this go-round features: A) a long, static shot of a door slowly shutting by itself; B) a sleeper dragged from bed by invisible forces; C) lights switching off and on without human intervention; and D) plenty of ominous sound effects. Will the new film increase the franchise's formidable popularity, or has the point of diminishing returns been reached? Look for our review online at startribune.com/movies.
