Don't tell the kids that this documentary is educational. They're likely to think it's an action-adventure. The movie opens with Viking warriors launching a brutal raid on a peaceful monastery in eighth-century England. But before all you good Scandinavians get your lutefisk in a bunch, the film notes the Nordic explorers' other accomplishments, including an appreciation for art and innovations in science and government. The movie also shatters the myth that the Vikings wore helmets with horns. And it documents something thought to be a myth: Archaeologists have found proof of warships capable of carrying as many as 200 men.

Not rated but OK for all ages

Where: Science Museum.
