A French romantic comedy.
Vanessa Paradis and Romain Duris in "Heartbreaker"
"Heartbreaker" (★★★; unrated; nudity; in subtitled French) is an exhilarating blast of fresh air for the musty romantic-comedy genre, but the less you know about it the better. Charmingly scruffy Romain Duris plays ... well, let's call him a kind of professional wedding crasher. Vanessa (Mrs. Johnny Depp) Paradis is the latest bride-to-be whose path he crosses. She is rich, chic and engaged to a flawless Prince Charming, but the ironclad laws of rom-com physics demand that she must fall for the inappropriate Duris. How this happens and why is a twist too fresh and delicious to expose. Instead, let's rave about Duris' performance, Paradis' beauty, the script's innovative twists, the smashing, sun-kissed locations from Morocco to Monaco and the uproarious comic support by Julie Ferrier and Francois Damiens as Duris' sidekicks. See it, tell your friends about it, but don't tell them anything about it. (Edina Cinema.)
