Friday: Vibrant shades of red will usher in the Chinese new year as the traditional lion dance, pounding drums and clanging of cymbals fight evil spirts and bad luck. Smell sweet and savory Asian foods at cooking demonstrations. See live performances or make Chinese crafts. Members of the Chinese Heritage Foundation will give patrons fortune cookies and red envelopes thought to bring good luck for the new year. (5-8 p.m. Fri. Free. Midtown Global Market, 920 E.
