YOUR GUIDE TO THE TWIN CITIES
Our critics select the summer's best activities and can't-miss events.
Four good things to look forward to:
Retro time: "Sin and Salvation" at the MIA
With their lush colors, sensual bodies and hothouse narratives, Victorian-era paintings are a secret delight of many contemporary collectors who love them but dare not admit it in sophisticated company. “Sin and Salvation: Holman Hunt and the Pre-Raphaelite Vision,” opening June 14 at the Minneapolis Institute of Arts, will flush this enthusiasm into the open with more than 60 paintings by the flamboyant Hunt and his pals, including Dante Gabriel Rossetti and John Everett Millais.

Jamming time: 10,000 Lakes Festival
For its seventh edition, the 10,000 Lakes Festival has finally landed the big kahuna – Dave Matthews Band. Of course, Widespread Panic is back for two nights but the lineup is diverse and dynamic with such treats as rock gods Wilco, the eternally funky Sharon Jones & the Dap-Kings, jam-band faves Umphrey’s McGee, Twin Cities beloved hip-hoppers Atmosphere, guitar wiz Junior Brown and many others. July 22-25 at Soo Pass Ranch in Detroit Lakes, Minn. For info, www.10KLF.com.

Dance time: "A Chorus Line"
The pathos. The music. The legs. “A Chorus Line” is one of those shows whose innovations have become clichés. This musical about 17 dancers trying out for eight parts in a show helped revive Broadway in 1975. Bob Avian, who co-choreographed the original with director Michael Bennett, stages a faithful revival of the Tony and Pulitzer winner that once was the longest-running show in Broadway history. (June 16-21, Orpheum Theatre, Mpls.)
ROHAN PRESTON
Classics time: Stllwater's White Pine Festival
Stillwater’s White Pine Festival, an annual get-together that stresses conversation and reflection, packs a lot of music into a few days. Highlights include a recital by pianist Angela Jia Kim (June 17), Ernest Bloch’s dramatic First Sonata for Vio- lin and Piano with departing Minnesota Orchestra concertmaster Jorja Fleezanis, pianist Karl Paulnack and musicologist Michael Steinberg (June 19), and the Miró Quartet with poet Matthea Harvey (June 21).
