Inkberry Cabernet Sauvignon

WINE

The 2013 Inkberry New South Wales Mountain Grown Cabernet Sauvignon ($15) is my first cab not only from that vintage but also from that part of Australia. It’s smooth and easy-drinking, with nice leathery notes amid the red-berry flavors. The grapes were picked at perfect ripeness — the alcohol level is 13.4 percent — and the youthful exuberance is leavened by some nice earthiness (remember, the Aussies harvest during our late winter, so this is not a pup). This is the rare cab that would go well with roast chicken or grilled burgers or brats, but it has enough heft to hold up to a juicy steak or leg of lamb.

Available at Sorella, Cellars in Plymouth, Edina at York Av., Knollwood and Thomas.
