It's exceedingly difficult to find really good stuff from Spain's Priorat region for less than $25. So the 2011 Bodegas La Cartuja Priorat ($15) is a screamin' bargain, tasting like something worth at least twice the price. Dark berries and a touch of licorice provide the flavors, and the tannins are soft but not wimpy, so this hearty red just flat-out feels good in the mouth. The finish has what we wine geeks call "lift." Try it with sausages and other cured pork, or a stew that's been making the house smell good all afternoon. Available at South Lyndale, Thomas and BrightWines.
