It's all about huge scrambles, a boffo biscuits-and-gravy combo and great people-watching at the Modern Cafe (337 13th Av. NE., 612-378-9882, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday). Go the family style route at soothing Campiello (1320 W. Lake St., 612-825-2222, www.damico.com, 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Sunday), with platters of pasta, eggs, waffles, bacon, muffins and more. Join the crowds at the Town Talk Diner (2707 1/2 E. Lake St., 612-722-1312, www.towntalkdiner.com, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday and Sunday), who flock to the place for superb pancakes, hearty pulled pork hash and a killer half-pound burger topped with a fried egg.

The brief brunch menu at Craftsman (4300 E. Lake St., 612-722-0175, www.craftsmanrestaurant.com, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday) has got the right stuff: brioche French toast with sizzling Minnesota-made maple-pork sausages, a towering fried egg-Cheddar-chipotle aioli sandwich and enormous warm cinnamon rolls. Half of Uptown appears to nurse hangovers each weekend at Bryant-Lake Bowl (810 W. Lake St., 612-825-3737, www.bryantlakebowl.com, breakfast served daily starting at 8 a.m.), taking solace in hearty pulled pork-topped biscuits, tortillas stuffed with scrambled eggs and salsa, smoked trout frittatas and flavorful tofu scrambles.

When the drama bug bites, consider Cue (806 S. 2nd St., 612-225-6499, www.cueatguthrie.com, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday) for its theatrical setting and pretty, imaginative fare. For those searching for an all-you-can-eat situation, check out the big buffet at the funky Loring Pasta Bar (327 14th Av. SE., 612-378-4849, www.loringpastabar.com, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday), a bargain at $15.95 per person. Or there's always the monster spread ($26 adults, $12 kids under 12) at Windows on Minnesota (710 Marquette Av. S., 612-376-7447, marquettehotel.com, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday), which is almost as big as the panoramic views from the IDS Tower's 50th floor.
