WASHINGTON – The White House Correspondents Association dinner has become an annual kind of prom for reporters, politicos and Washington insiders, who get to mingle with big names, starting with the president and first lady, and a lot of glitzy Hollywood stars. This year's dinner, the 99th, may be a little more subdued, coming less than two weeks after the terrorist bombings in Boston and the deadly explosion in Texas.

About 2,700 ticket-holders will jam the Washington Hilton, many hoping for a glimpse of stars on the red carpet or in the ballroom. Hollywood will be well represented this year: Barbra Streisand, Nicole Kidman, Bradley Cooper, producer Harvey Weinstein, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Daniel Day-Lewis and Steven Spielberg, among others, are expected to be on hand.

Sports celebrities also have been invited, including former NBA star Shaquille O'Neal, Washington Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III and Olympic gold medal gymnast Gabby Douglas.

'Breakfast' manuscript sold to Russian

Truman Capote's 1958 typed manuscript of "Breakfast at Tiffany's" with the author's handwritten edits has sold for about $306,000 at auction to a Russian billionaire. The manuscript, expected to net at least $250,000, was offered for sale online by New Hampshire-based auction house RR Auction. The house says the winning bidder was Russian retail magnate Igor Sosin, who plans to display the manuscript in Moscow and Monaco. Capote's handwritten notations include changing the femme fatale's name from Connie Gustafson to the now-iconic Holly Golightly. Harper's Bazaar bought serialization rights, then balked at the book's explicit content. Esquire magazine purchased it from Harper's. The 1961 silver screen adaptation starred Audrey Hepburn.
